New tiles

I don’t want to drill holes in my beautiful new tiles. We went to IKEA yesterday to buy towel hangers and miscellaneous wall-mounted gadgets. There’s an ugly white rod that’s supposed to hold the shower-curtain that looks just as cheap as it is. It’s going to break and we’ll be left with holes in the walls that don’t fit the real thing when we can afford to buy and install it.

All the IKEA gadgets require that I drill holes in the wall. Hang some bathrobes? Got towels? Drill holes. I don’t like it. It means you can’t move things around, trying new configurations until you find the perfect spot.

So what to do? Mount the cheap IKEA stuff? Or wait until we find what we really need?

There is a third solution, though: use hooks and hangers, steel wire baskets and shower curtain thingamajigs that are attached with suction cups. I love the things!

If I can find suction-cups that are better than the cheapest possible ones you randomly pick up in a design store I can build all sorts of things that attach to walls. I wonder if somebody has already thought of this? Suction cups with some kind of ball joint and standardized connectors … a kind of grown-up bathroom LEGO. Hmm. Wonder what Annika thinks of the idea :-)
