del.icio.us becomes Delicious: closed preview, open invitation

I was invited to try out the preview of the revamped Delicious social bookmarking service. First of all: the name change is crucial. Nobody is going to use a service with a crazy url like del.icio.us. No way. delicious.com is much better.

I’m exploring the service as I go along. Right now I’m reading the Terms of Service to check if it’s ok to post some screeshots. I can’t find anything preventing me from doing so, so here we go.

Somebody has been busy trying to make social bookmarking easier to understand. Starting with the url, through the user experience design down to the way tagging is handled. Delicios is still a very geeky service, largely because the early adopters are still a majority of the users, but I think the major overhaul done by the Delicious team is rather impressive. Hopefully Delicious will finally reach out to the Facebook crowd, who are only just starting to explore social networking. This kind of service relies heavily on the users, so getting new people to use the service will be crucial. Most social bookmarking sites are growing stale and inbred.

So come on in once Delicious is launched to the public. I’ll keep telling you about the stuff I find in the closed preview.
