Secret Office
Yesterday we found a hidden room at the office.
Unikum shares a floor of an old office building with several other small companies. We have two small rooms and we’re usually 4 or five people at the office. We’ve recently started feeling a little crowded and we need to grow even more. Things are moving really fast, with phones ringing, discussions being had across the office, coffee being ground and meetings being had behind the backs of people trying to create stuff: code, text, ideas.
It’s hardly an ideal situation for concentrating on what you need to get done, but it’s a great environment for ideas.
Recently I’ve been spending more time working at home, in my sofa. I find that to get anything at all done I need to reduce the number of distractions. I write stuff using WriteRoom to get words down on screen without distractions. Home is a good place to be if you need to think, or if you need to really hammer out code.
But isolating yourself is a little bit provoking to your colleagues. Turning up at the office at 10 after spending the morning working is suspect. That is one of the reasons I started the Off project.
But I digress. Or do I?
So, we discovered a hidden room at the office, and our keys worked in the lock.
We can use the room, starting tomorrow. It needs a fresh coat of paint - I’m thinking some nice, dark grey - and some furniture. I want:
A 42” TV with long vga and hdmi cables.
A sofa and a low table.
A small table and some plain chairs.
A nice rug and pillows.
A computer desk/station on wheels.
Wireless network.
A nice pair of speakers.
I need to start scouring Blocket for stuff …
… but first I need to get Unikum in shape for Skolforum
