Linux kicks arse! Ubuntu 7.10 released.

The developers at Unikum were all giggly the other day. Some of them have been eying my Mac with distrust, and have pretended not to be very impressed with the snazzy interface, transparencies and animations. Now they were giggling. With glee.

It turns out Ubuntu 7.10 ‘Gutsy’ has just been released and it looks absolutely amazing! Sure, there is a lot of polishing to do, but it seems the Linux-crowd have finally realised that they have to build stuff that looks AMAZING to be able to compete on the desktop. MaxOSX and Windows Vista are both very “pretty” with lots of effects and whizz-bang. Ubuntu 7.10 borrows heavily from both, but out-wizzes them by far.

Rubbery windows? Bouncing icons? Transparent transparencies. Ubuntu 7.10 has ‘em, and more. How about slithy toves gyrating and gimbling in the wabe? Mimsy borogoves outgrabing mome raths in splendind 3D. How’s about that?

And it’s free too! Support is pretty cheap if you want it.

Now I have to go home and install this on Annikas derelict Compaq laptop. You betcha.
